It was another action-packed weekend for Isle of Wight Hockey Club, with every senior side in action and the U14 Girls delivering one of their strongest performances of the season.
From title-defining victories to battling draws and character-building displays, Island teams once again showed resilience and spirit despite continued disruption to home fixtures.
LADIES 1XI EARN VALUABLE POINT ON THE ROAD
A hard-earned draw at Alton rewarded discipline, composure and late defensive resolve.
The Isle of Wight Ladies 1XI battled to a 1–1 draw away at Alton in a fiercely contested encounter.
With Elsie Jenkinson commanding in goal and a solid defensive spine of Emily Lord, Hannah Pocock and Claire Caddick, screened superbly by Saffron Hart, the Islanders absorbed early pressure well. Both sides threatened from short corners, with Hart seeing a trademark strike denied.
Alton opened the scoring from a slick short corner routine, but the response was immediate. The midfield quartet of Sophie Parkhouse, Mia Lawrence, Lizzie Dodds and Polly Rider began to dictate possession and feed a lively forward line.
The equaliser came from a short corner. Lord’s injection found Rider at the top of the D and, following a scramble at the far post, Annabelle Stanley reacted quickest to force the ball home.
A tense final 2 minutes saw Alton awarded one last short corner, but resolute defending ensured the Islanders left with a deserved point.

MEN’S 1XI MOVE 7 POINTS CLEAR
A ruthless second-half surge saw the Islanders tighten their grip at the top.
The Isle of Wight Men’s 1XI delivered a title-defining 4–1 victory over Haslemere to move 7 points clear.
After a competitive first half, Haslemere struck early in the second period. The Islanders responded emphatically. Adam Payne’s relentless running earned key short corners, from which Antonio Ferreira equalised following a rebound.
Goalkeeper Steph Boyd produced a series of outstanding saves to keep the Islanders level. With 10 minutes remaining, Antonio struck again with a deft reverse finish before Joe Arnold added a third from close range.
Antonio completed his hat-trick late on, calmly finishing a counterattack to seal an emphatic win.

LADIES 2XI SECURE GRITTY DRAW
A late short corner strike ensured the Islanders earned their reward.
The Ladies 2XI secured a 1–1 draw away at Portsmouth 4s.
An evenly matched first half saw chances at both ends. Portsmouth took the lead early in the second half with a neat finish from just inside the D.
Island responded with determination and were rewarded in the 58th minute when Megan Bridger fired home a powerful short corner strike into the left corner.
Faith delivered an excellent performance in goal, making crucial saves to preserve the draw.

MEN’S 2XI COMPLETE COMEBACK WIN
Second-half pressure and composure turned the tide in Basingstoke.
The Isle of Wight Men’s 2XI produced a spirited display to defeat Basingstoke 2–1.
After trailing at the break despite strong defensive work from Jarrod Butler, Toby Noyes and Will Dall-Whittall, the Islanders raised their intensity.
Persistent pressure and numerous short corners paid off when Arthur White forced the equaliser over the line. Thomas Young then capitalised on a mis-hit effort, cleverly turning it into the winning goal.
The Islanders managed the closing stages superbly to secure a deserved victory.

MIXED SIDE SHOW CHARACTER IN TOUGH TEST
Commitment and resilience shone despite a challenging mainland fixture.
The Isle of Wight Mixed side fell to a 6–0 defeat against Basingstoke in a rearranged fixture.
Despite the scoreline, there were committed performances throughout. Blue was outstanding in goal, producing a series of brave saves. Emily Lord, Ethan Edmunds-Lamb and Alex Breach battled resolutely in defence, while the midfield worked tirelessly to disrupt Basingstoke’s rhythm.
The Islanders created chances but were unable to convert against a clinical home side.

U14 GIRLS IMPRESS IN NARROW DEFEAT
A performance full of belief and progress marked a significant step forward.
The Isle of Wight U14 Girls produced a superb team display in a 3–2 defeat away at Havant.
After trailing 2–0, Zoe lifted the ball over the goalkeeper to pull one back. Havant restored their 2-goal advantage before a superb run from Oli set up sister Mattie to score late on.
Despite the loss, the performance reflected real progress, teamwork and determination across the squad.
