UPDATED: MEDICAL EMERGENCY IN WOOTTON RESULTS IN MAIN ROAD TRAFFIC DELAYS

A medical emergency at Wootton Bridge is causing delays on the main road between Ryde and Newport this morning (Tuesday). Emergency services were called to the scene on High Street, at the junction with New Road, at just before 09:15. Island Echo understands a male has required urgent medical attention. The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service has mobilised an ambulance crew and a critical care paramedic to the scene, with firefighters from Ryde also responding on a medical call out. The road remains open in both directions, albeit under give and take with officers from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary marshalling traffic. Traffic is backing up in both directions on Kite Hill and High Street respectively, with motorists advised to avoid the area for the time being. UPDATE – The scene has now been cleared and traffic is free-flowing once again.
