A medical emergency at Medina Leisure Centre in Newport resulted in the scrambling of the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance earlier this afternoon (Friday). The yellow and green helicopter touched down in the fields of Medina College shortly before 13:25. Flying medics joined 2 ambulance crews, a critical care paramedic and an operational commander – all from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service – in tending to a patient at Medina Leisure Centre. It’s thought the individual suffered a cardiac emergency whilst at the centre. The poorly patient has since been airlifted directly to the Queen Alexandra Hospital in Cosham, Portsmouth for further, specialist treatment. The helicopter took off from Newport at around 14:10.
