A local man who pinned his own mother down on her bed, slapped her and threatened to kill her has been handed a community order for a total of 9 offences, including criminal damage, theft, assault and exposure.
Anthony Serjent, 43, of no fixed abode, appeared before the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court on Friday where he received an 18-month community order after pleading guilty to 4x criminal damage; 2x assault by beating; exposure; theft from a shop and racially aggravated harassment, alarm or distress.
The court heard that the offences took place on a number of dates in June, July and August.
It was on 14th June this year that Anthony’s behaviour declined due to his alcohol consumption, which led to him causing criminal damage at his parent’s house in Godshill – namely a lampshade and wall. On the same day he became violent towards his own mother and a heated argument led to Elaine Serjent walking out of the house for space. When she returned he pushed her onto the bed, slapped her across the face and threatened to kill her.
A month later, Serjent was caught stealing a set of knives from TK Maxx in Newport – with the former chef claiming he wanted to get back into the kitchen but couldn’t as he didn’t have a set of knives. He also caused criminal damage to a light at the Jobcentre’s Broadlands House in Newport.
On 10th August, Serjent is said to have exposed his genitals by waving his penis around after having a wee. Furthermore, on the same date, he became racially abusive to a Olufemi Gbadegesin and caused criminal damage to light fittings and switches belonging to the Isle of Wight Council.
Defending, Mr Dodd said his client had refrained from alcohol and had stopped smoking during his period in custody. He also explained that Serjent believes he suffers from Aspergers or a similar disorder on the autistic spectrum.
Magistrates handed out an 18-month community order with a 12-month alcohol rehabilitation requirement, alongside 20 rehabilitation days and 250 hours of unpaid work. Anthony Serjent was also ordered to pay £255 costs with a £95 surcharge.
for assaulting his own mother, the person who gave him his life, ensured that he had food, shelter and clothing during those early years, which prevented him from dying of starvation in a pile of his own excrement, as he couldn’t look after himself, he should be looking at an immediate custodial sentence, where he should be dumped into the general prison population with mother beater on his back.

Hold on though, don’t make the mistake of thinking that just because someone is a mother that they have to be wonderful human beings. There are plenty of people that should never have become mothers at all. And after all, why did he turn out like he has if it was his mother who brought him up? If she is some godly saint, then shouldn’t he be better than this? The hand that rocks the cradle and all. Just saying.
I’m afraid I have to disagree, you will find that she has done an incredibly good job at raising her children to the point that her eldest son is a very very successful buisness owner and very talented chef, having worked all over the world and local buisness owner. This piece of trash that is her other son unfortunately took a very different path, again traveled etc and chose drugs and alcohol instead. Complete waste of space that has been given chances time and time again! He’s disgusting for what he has done to his mother.

It’s not ok for anyone to do it to anyone, regardless of gender. Not all women are saints just because they are women or mothers, like not all men are saints, in fact I don’t think any human is. My point it that there seems to be a notion that if someone is a mother they are some beyond reproach individual who has to be seen as almost saintly, and the reality is often very different. Many mothers are violent and aggressive bullies, also manipulative and devious, just like some men are. I don’t know what this particular woman is like who is the mother of this guy, I was reacting to the comment from someone who appears not to know what she’s like but seems to presume she is wonderful just for being the guys’ mother.
Quite often somebody could have two children one can Garth the rounds and one is law-abiding brought up by the same mother on the same conditions

And you would know how, the mother did a fantastic job,,, you cannot make the horse drink when you have lead it to the water, he chose drugs and drink over his parents every time, chose it over his family and friends every one tried to support and help him, he chose this path let him suffer along it. I simply can’t understand how anyone can attack a mother that gave them a life, even if the mother did a bad job bringing them up.
If she had the responsibility without a farther figure, and suffered an overwhelming situation that she found overwhelming, it’s tragic when that life she created attacks her.
He should have left her life if he was so unhappy, but he didn’t because he is a very weak man that will die a lonely death..

I have seen it all on here now. Apparently, being a possibly bad mother gives a son the right to smack her and threaten her, and making racist comments is understandable under the circumstances, I suppose Flashing his bits around was just a bit of fun?
This guy is out of control, he is an alcoholic and obviously has anger issues and absolutely no boundaries. It matters not how he was brought up, he is 43 for gods sake!! Obviously our ‘out of touch’ Magistrates decided that his offences were insignificant and just slapped his wrist.. Maybe they should witness his behaviour first hand to see the harm he causes.
