A man who severed his artery when smashing a car window, which prompted a response to the West Wight by the air ambulance last night (Tuesday), has subsequently been arrested by Police.
It was just gone 18:30 that emergency services responded to reports of a man assaulting another man – and smashing car windows – on Amos Hill, off The Avenue, in Freshwater.
During the incident, the local male sustained a serious injury to his arm.
Island Echo understands he sustained a significant slash wound as a result of smashing a car window.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance landed on nearby Colwell Common to assist paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service in treating the casualty. Thankfully, the male’s injuries did not require specialist treatment on the mainland and so he was conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital by land ambulance.
Police cordoned off Amos Hill for a time.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has this morning (Wednesday) confirmed that the 37-year-old man, from Totland Bay, has been arrested on suspicion of criminal damage, common assault, and intentional strangulation.
He remains in custody at this time.

If he was going after a nonce, congrats.
Otherwise, twat!
“Severed arm”? Get a grip.
make him pay for helicopter call out
Here Here
What makes me sick about these numpties,
they break the law and then overwhelm the struggling
NHS
This lawless numpty should have to pay for self inflicted
injuries and then be banged up for his crime.
Keep our streets safe.
Hear hear
Ear, Ear.
Lol
Did they stitch his arm back on before or after the assault?
And again the taxpayer has to foot he bill. The air ambulance is an amazing facility but it costs a packet every time it takes off. Frankly, when it has to be called out in these sorts of circumstances, along with a road ambulance I saw going to this incident, those responsible should be billed for the full cost.
They sure should have to pay, self inflicted injuries
should have to be paid for by the numpty themselves.
Heigst with his own petard.
