UPDATED: Police have seized what is thought to be 2 large swords that were being carried by a man on Coppins Bridge in Newport tonight (Tuesday).
At around 22:15 officers detained the man and placed him into the back of a cell van, according to witness reports.
Shockingly, photographs shared on social media (now included above) show what appears to be 2 large swords placed on the pavement beside the Police van.
It has been suggested that the incident could be related to a reenactment meeting that has taken place at The Church on the Roundabout this evening,
The incident is not thought to be terror related and there’s is no risk to the public.
UPDATE WEDNESDAY – Hampshire Constabulary have confirmed that the swords were replicas.
The man was advised on the best way to transport such items.
