A man had his face slashed with a knife during an incident in Brighstone yesterday evening (Sunday), which has resulted in 2 men being arrested.
Police and the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service raced out of Newport to the rural village at just before 17:30, in response to reports of an altercation outside the Three Bishops pub.
It had been reported via a 999 call that a group of people – believed to be known to one another – were fighting in the pub garden.
During this incident, a man sustained a laceration to his cheek suspected to have been caused by a Stanley knife.
Officers and medics arrived at the scene on Main Road, where paramedics treated the casualty for his facial injuries before taking him to St Mary’s Hospital.
It has been confirmed that a 53-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.
This morning, a 45-year-old man was also arrested in connection with the incident, on suspicion of intentional strangulation, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and making threats to kill.
Both men remain in custody at this time as enquiries continue.
