A vulnerable man was rescued by HM Coastguard and the Sandown & Shanklin Independent Lifeboat early this morning (Monday).
Coastguard Rescue Teams from Bembridge and Ventnor were called to Luccombe at around 03:30 following reports to Solent Coastguard that a man had been found in a vulnerable and cold state.
Due to the remote location of the casualty, who was situated between Shanklin and Ventnor, the assistance of Sandown & Shanklin Independent Lifeboat (SSILB) was requested to evacuate the man from the bottom of the cliffs. Coastguard officers had descended from the top but it was decided that the safest and quickest option was to utilise the local lifeboat.
As the sun rose above The Bay the volunteer lifeboat crew of SSILB took the casualty to Sandown, where he was transferred into the care of the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service.
Emergency teams had stood down by 05:00.
