A 58-year-old man remains in police custody after allegedly assaulting a child in the car park of St Mary’s Hospital.
It was just before 21:00 last night (Friday) that Police were alerted to concerns for the welfare of a child.
It had been reported to authorities that a man had been seen assaulting the youngster in the car park of St Mary’s Hospital in Newport.
Responding to the incident, officers swiftly stopped an orange-coloured vehicle on nearby Forest Road.
The driver was arrested on suspicion of common assault.
Thankfully, the child did not sustain any injuries.
Enquiries remain ongoing and the man remains in custody at Newport Police Station at this time.
Poor child
People are angry about this story because they assume this child who was assaulted is around 5 years old.
But a child could be up to 48 years old if they arrive in the UK by boat which is almost the same age as the man who was arrested.
