A 23-year-old man has been released on bail following last night’s incident in Ryde, which saw more than half a dozen Armed Police descend on a residential close.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary was called at just gone 19:00 to reports of a disturbance at an address at Field View, off Bettesworth Road, in Haylands.
The nature of the report led to the deployment of armed response officers from both sides of the Solent.
Island Echo is told that a man ‘armed with a sword’ was causing significant damage to the inside of a terraced home.
The incident was brought to a safe and peaceful conclusion at just before 21:00 when a male was escorted from the property and into the care of the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service. He was taken to St Mary’s Hospital for treatment and assessment.
Nobody was injured in the incident, Police say.
It has been confirmed that a 23-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of common assault and criminal damage.
He has been released on bail until 24th July.
