A male threatening harm on the edge of Culver Down has prompted an emergency response to the East Wight beauty spot this morning (Monday). 6 Police units are currently on scene overlooking Sandown Bay having been made aware of the situation at around 09:15. Officers are currently working to engage with the individual, who is the wrong side of the safety fence. Coastguard Rescue Teams from Bembridge and Ventnor – and the Island’s Senior Coastal Operations Officer – are also in attendance, with Coastguards donning cliff rescue equipment and standing by. Bembridge RNLI’s D-class inshore lifeboat has launched from Lane End at the request of Solent Coastguard and is holding off Culver. Access to the far end of Culver Down has been restricted whilst the incident remains ongoing.
UPDATE @ 10:50 – The male has been talked down by Police and is now safely in the care of paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service. The incident is drawing to a close and access to motorists and pedestrians has been restored.
