The main road connecting Newport to Sandown will be closed tonight (Thursday) to allow for the resurfacing of the carriageway after a bus blaze caused significant damage last month.
Motorists have been frustrated by the erection of 2-way temporary traffic lights on Newport Road, between Lake and Apse Heath, since the fire on 20th June – almost 2 weeks ago.
Now, the road will be closed in both directions from 19:00 this evening to allow for the road to be resurfaced.
All traffic will be diverted locally via Whiteley Bank and Shanklin.
It is unclear if the A3056 will reopen fully or partially in the morning, with Island Roads permitting up to 5 days for the work to be completed.
