UPDATED: Police have closed Lushington Hill in Wootton this afternoon (Wednesday) following a road traffic collision involving a cyclist.
Paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service and several Police officers are attending the scene on the main road between Wootton and Newport, where a cyclist is said to be laying on the pavement. It is thought a HGV has been involved in the incident.
The road has been closed in both directions whilst emergency crews, who were called at just after 16:30, attend to the casualty.
It is understood the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance has been requested to attend the incident.
Southern Vectis buses are divering via Whiterails Road until further notice.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area with traffic reported to already be heavy and slow moving.
UPDATE @ 17:25 – Lushington Hill has reopened in both directions.
The male cyclist’s injuries are not as serious as first feared. He has been conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital by land ambulance with non-life threatening injuries.
The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance and other emergency services have now left the scene.
