Local elections WILL take place on 6th May as planned, the Government has confirmed.
Across the Island, the electorate will go to the polls on 6th May voting for ward representatives for the Isle of Wight Council, the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Police Crime Commissioner and in some areas, town and parish councillors too.
It is expected that the country will be out of lockdown in March and by May will be returning towards a near-normal life as the COVID-19 vaccine programme continues to be rolled out.
However, voters will be asked to bring their own pen or pencil to mark the ballot form and all polling stations will be COVID secure, should there be a need. Hand sanitisers will be available and masks will need to be worn inside.
Islanders have a choice as to how they vote — either in person at polling stations, by postal vote or by proxy (someone voting on your behalf). Those who are self-isolating will be able to request an emergency proxy vote up until 17:00 on 6th May.
So Covid does not exist on 6th May

Total overreaction of the headline before an ounce of your braincells have been used. Voting will be safe, take off your tinfoil helmet and just think. Do you honestly think the voting venues are not going to be safe in any shape or form? John you are a person of speak now, think later.
Covid does exist and will exist on May 6, certain measures will be put in place to make sure voting is as safe as possible, don’t just sit back and moan about the Council, if you choose not to vote you are making no effort to change anything, check the manifesto’s, we all know few politicians live up to their promises.
Don’t let somebody else make decisions for you on May 6 and then moan about what you get, if you don’t like what we presently have choose to make a difference!
