UPDATED: Ryde Inshore Rescue have been tasked to a vessel aground at Ryde Sands tonight (Thursday).
Coastguard Rescue Teams from Bembridge and Ventnor are in attendance at Ryde Esplanade and Ryde Pier and are liaising with Ryde Rescue to locate the casualty vessel.
Communication is proving difficult with the skipper of the stricken boat, which is thought to be 33ft in length.
UPDATE @ 22:15 – The vessel has been successfully located to the far east of Ryde Pier and Ryde Rescue 1 lifeboat is now alongside.
UPDATE @ 22:37 – Ryde Inshore Rescue have pulled the casualty vessel clear from the sands and are to conduct a tow to Portsmouth. 2 persons are on board the 33ft yacht and the engine has suffered a mechanical failure.
Coastguard Rescue Teams from Bembridge and Ventnor have now stood down.
UPDATE @ 23:49 – The yacht has been successfully towed to Haslar Marina and Ryde Rescue 1 has returned to station.
The incident has been brought to a close.
