Sandown & Shanklin Independent Lifeboat was tasked to recover an object in the water off of the Sandown coastline this afternoon (Thursday) after a kite surfer became disconnected from his kite.
Solent Coastguard received numerous calls from members of the public shortly before 13:15 reporting the sighting of a kite in the water near to Sandown Pier. Thankfully, the owner of the kite made it back to shore safely, however SSILB was requested to launch and recover the large blue and orange kite before it entered the busy shipping lanes.
Ventnor Coastguard were also tasked to the scene, keeping a visual on the floating debris and gathered details from the kite surfer.
The object was located a mile out from Sandown Pier and was brought back to the lifeboat station for collection by the owner.
No one was injured in the incident.
