UPDATED: An emergency call that a 19-year-old man had suffered a spinal injury while kayaking led to Cowes RNLI lifeboat and HM Coastguard being tasked this afternoon (Thursday).
The accident occurred in the River Medina near to UKSA, where the young man was a student.
Cowes lifeboat launched at 15:50 however when it arrived on the scene, the crew found that the man was by then on the UKSA slipway being attended to by paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service.
Newport Initial Response Team were also tasked to the incident, but were also stood down.
Satisfied that no help was required from the crew, the lifeboat then returned to station.
UPDATE FRIDAY: The injured kayaker was assessed in hospital and later discharged.
