“I have no excuse for it” – that’s the honest words of a drink driver who was caught behind the wheel in Ryde whilst more than 3x the limit.
54-year-old Benjamin Salder, of Denton Gardens in East Cowes, appeared before the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court on Friday charged with 1 offence of drink driving.
The court heard that on 31st July a member of the public alerted Police to a suspected drink driver at St Thomas’ Street car park in Ryde. The caller told Police that the driver had failed to apply the handbrake and their vehicle had rolled into a wooden bollard. They also stated that the driver had got out of the vehicle to urinate, but it was evident he had wet himself.
Police were deployed to the area and located the Toyota on Queen’s Road before pulling the vehicle over into the car park of All Saints church.
It soon became clear to officers that the driver was intoxicated as not only did he have slurred speech and smelt strongly of alcohol, but he urinated himself for a second time.
Sadler was breathalysed and arrested, later providing a reading of 109 on the evidential breathalyser – more than 3x the drink-drive limit.
Benjamin Sadler represented himself in court and provided no defence, other than saying he had no excuse for his actions. He stated that he did not work due to an ankle injury.
Magistrates handed Sadler a 26-month ban and placed a 18:00-05:00 curfew on him for a period of 12 months.

Did not manage to work due to an ankle injury!! Managed to get alcohol to get drunk and able to drive
Would you care to enlighten we disabled as to what his exact injury is and how, in your medical experience, this would prevent him from buying alcohol and driving a car? I have no doubt he is an idiot, but I do see a lot of self proclaimed medical experts spouting off about folk doing things that said experts don’t think they should be able to do and it gets tiresome at times.
You were triggered, lol. He was not talking about disabled people, he was talking about the lame excuse given.
What are you talking about this is nothing to do with being disabled. Get real
You sound like a proud benefit scrounger.
Quite agree ….along with easy drugs available….Firestone copse Havenstreet….a well known area …if the police are unaware ….
Another disgusting drunk. The Island seems full of them. Maybe the whole country is, given that Britain seems one of the worst for knocking back booze than anywhere else in Europe. I despair of this country.
Yes drunks and drug users are destroying our island as they have realised they can do their dealing and escape mainland police and relax on our beaches….island police arnt up to the problem….so we islanders suffer..
lol pissy pants….bet he ponged in the sun
