UPDATED: Emergency services are this evening attending a two car road traffic collision in Lake.
Fire, police and ambulance crews are all in attendance at the junction of the A3055 Sandown Road, A3056 Newport Road and Heath Road, near to The Stag Inn public house.
Island Echo understand a Ford Fiesta and an unknown people carrier have collided near to the busy junction.
The drivers side of the people carrier is said to be badly damaged, according to witnesses.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area as the road is currently blocked in both directions, with traffic moving slowly under Police direction.
UPDATE @ 23:15 – Reports indicate that Sandown Road has been closed in both directions by Police at the 4-way junction.
Southern Vectis are diverting Route 3 buses via Landguard Manor Road until further notice.
UPDATE @ 00:05 – The incident has been cleared and Sandown Road has reopened to traffic.
UPDATE SATURDAY – It has been confirmed this morning that one person was freed from their vehicle by firefighters from Ryde, Sandown and Shanklin after becoming trapped in the wreckage.
The unnamed man was taken to St Mary’s Hospital, Newport for treatment. His injuries are not believed to be serious.
