A critical medical emergency in Sandown led to a rapid response from the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance late last night (Sunday).
It was just before 23:20 that the air ambulance swooped over the seaside town of Sandown before landing on the beach directly outside Premier Inn.
Flying medics rendezvoused with paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service at Pier Street.
After a period of assessment and treatment, the decision was made to convey the patient directly to St Mary’s Hospital by land ambulance, with the air ambulance doctors and enhanced paramedics accompanying.
The yellow and green helicopter lifted off from Sandown and relocated to the helipad in Newport, before eventually returning to base in Andover at around 01:20.
