Four major political parties hope to win the Isle of Wight Council ward of Lake North at the forthcoming local elections.
Liberal Democrat Bob Blezzard, The Labour Party’s Jenny Hicks, incumbent county councillor Bill Nigh of Reform UK and Local Conservative Adrian Charles Whittaker are looking to represent the seat after May 7.
The Local Democracy Reporting Service (LDRS) sent requests for 100-word pitches and images to candidates, either directly or via parties or groups.
Here’s what they had to say, in no particular order…
Bob Blezzard
I’ve lived in The Bay for 23 years. As a retired senior local government officer my experience will help me to serve the residents well. I have been an Isle of Wight councillor, parish councillor and school governor and know how to get things done.
At a time of uncertainty, experienced councillors are essential. Priorities include sorting out the dangerous Fairway/Lake Hill road junction by getting the 2018 feasibility study acted on and focusing on improving the poor quality of many local roads.
I will be a listening councillor and will support residents when they need help dealing with the council.
Jenny Hicks
Jenny Hicks is a local grandmother who regularly volunteers for community projects around the Bay Area, including Sandown in Bloom and fundraising for the carnival. From 2021-25, Jenny served her community on both Lake Parish Council and Sandown Town Council where she was responsible for youth provision – advocating for youth and community projects.
Bill Nigh (incumbent ward councillor)
I was honoured to be elected by you last October, and because of that I was able to create a new group within the council’s committee system gaining seats on no less than seven different committees together also with full council where I have a 100 per cent attendance record.
I have also been a regular attendee at parish council and have enjoyed meeting and working with many of you there.
I am not loud, I do not seek publicity, but rest assured I work tirelessly in the background for the benefit of the residents and businesses of Lake North.
Adrian Charles Whittaker
I’m Adrian Whittaker, and I’m standing again in the Lake North local election on May 7th—the third election here in a year.
This time, residents have a clear choice: national party politics or a candidate focused on local results.
Since the last election, I’ve worked on job creation, improvements at Fairway Junction, and the Manor Road Playpark.
Residents will see these improvements within the coming year. As deputy chairman of Lake Parish Council, I’ve built experience delivering for our community and I’m ready to take the next step and continue getting things done locally.
