LADIES’ UNDAUNTED BY THE HEAT IN 2-DAY CHAMPIONSHIP

Shanklin and Sandown Golf Club’s Ladies’ Championship, played over 2 days, got off to a blistering start on Monday (6th August). 

Undaunted by the heat, the ladies took to the course in this keenly contested competition.

At the end of the second day Joanne Wright emerged victorious as Ladies Club Champion and winner of the Scratch Salver with a gross score of 158. The runner up was Carole Bingham with 166 and third place went to Lucy Burke with 167.

Jenny Domoney won the Handicap Cup with a total nett score of 143. Carole Bingham was runner up with 144 and Ronnie Hirst in third place on 146.

The Gallop Cup was won on count back by Joyce Petrie with a nett 70, with Catherine Bachelor runner up and Chris Ellis taking third place with 71.

The Harrison Trophy (Stableford) was won by Pearl Robertson with 38 points, ahead of Angela Lassey on 31. A new addition to the championship silverware is the Newcomin Cup for best front 9, run in conjunction with the Harrison Trophy. Trophy winner Pearl Robertson also won this with a score of 22.
