The Labour and Co-operative candidate to be the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Police and Crime Commissioner, Tony Bunday, is pledging to conduct a review of police activity across the 2 counties with the aim of maximising their contribution to the fight against climate change.
Ahead of the election on 6th May, Tony has said:
“We are in a climate emergency and I believe that the Police must play their part in our response to this. If elected, I will identify where the police could be greener and will plan to make changes during my time in office. This is not just about the use of energy for travel and buildings. We need to also look in more detail at many other areas such as supply chains.”
“I wish to be clear that this will be based on a pragmatic approach and will not override existing priorities to keep communities safe or make the lives of our officers even more demanding. However, we must do more and have a very clear direction of travel on this. We need a clear assessment of where we currently are, from which we can set and meet targets in the future. All organisations must play their part in this battle.”
Tony has a personal commitment to the environment. He is a keen cyclist and is actively involved in various environmental protection societies and community groups. His full green policy can be seen on his website www.tonybunday.co.uk.

Whatever the Police’ priorities should be, I don’t think being ecologically sound needs to be at the top.
A more fundamental question is: Why do we need a PCC at all? Surely the costs could be better spent in front-line policing?
Shouldn’t he be mentioning rural crime, the rise in violent attacks on the island, drugs, you know all the things the police are known for trying to prevent, rather than climate issues…..
Somehow tracking down career crooks and getting them both convicted and detained in secure custody seems to be of greater priority!
Typical lunatic lefty idiot
Typical left wing woke socialist
That’s not what your going to be paid for !
There is no ‘climate emergency’. But probably there is a crime emergency to which the commissioner candidate needs to focus his attention.
Soon be Easter, must get a chocolate teapot.
in other words, he hasn’t got a clue about crime, prevention and punishment and is going to waste everyones time, banging on about green issues. Perhaps he should be working for a company that is into waste recycling, after all, he is talking a lot of rubbish.
He is looking for the wrong job if he thinks climate change is his key priority.
Not got my vote. Why do we want a politico in that job? Next please.
Typical crap coming out of a left wing idiot, read the job title and tell me where it says “going green” maybe work for a waste company.
