kitesurferrescueappleyTwo kite surfers have been rescued after getting into difficulty off of a Ryde beach this afternoon (Monday).

HM Coastguard received a number of 999 calls at around 15:30 reporting two persons in difficulty off of Appley Beach between Ryde and Seaview, prompting an emergency response.

Bembridge Coastguard Rescue Team were deployed to the scene alongside Ryde Inshore Rescue, who launched their secondary lifeboat to successfully recover one of the extreme sport surfers. Thankfully, the second male involved was able to make his own way back to shore after battling the strong winds and current, where he was met by a member of the Coastguard.

kitesurferrescueappley3Although cold and shaken, both surfers have escaped any serious injuries and were taken into the care of Ryde Inshore Rescue at their nearby base.

Ryde Rescue 2 lifeboat continued to search for a missing surf board.
