A planned kite festival that was due to take place at Culver Down this weekend has been postponed due to bad weather.

The Up & Down Kite Festival, organised by The New Carnival Company and Natural Wight, was all set to impress with kite flyers of all ages flying their creations high above the downs overlooking Sandown Bay.

Due to the expected high winds and lashing rain, the decision has been made to postpone the event to preserve the kites for a more suitable day later in the year.

The event is aimed at highlighting threatened wildlife across the garden Isle.

Project Manager, Rachel Jagger-Thomas, has urged people to hang onto their kites… “ The decision to postpone has not been taken lightly, the event team has been monitoring both site and weather conditions all week.   We believe to go ahead this weekend could possibly compromise the safety and enjoyment of all our kite makers and flyers.

“We know that a huge amount of work has gone into making some amazing kites, and we ask everyone to hang on to them and join us to fly them on a new date in the not too distant future”.

A new date for the festival will be announced in due course.
