Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus are tackling a kitchen fire at a property in Ryde this afternoon (Sunday).
2 fire appliances are currently on scene at a semi-detached family home on Monkton Street, close to the junction with Rink Road.
The alarm was raised shortly before 11:30, prompting both Ryde’s wholetime and retained crews to be turned out.
It has been confirmed that the fire has broken out in the kitchen.
Firefighters have entered the building equipped with breathing apparatus and a hose reel to tackle the fire.
UPDATE @ 11:55 – With the situation now under control, positive pressure ventilation is being used to clear lingering smoke.
Monkton Street is currently blocked to all traffic between Rink Road and Park Road.
UPDATE @ 13:55 – This morning’s incident was caused by cooking, it has been confirmed.
A hob was removed from the kitchen.
The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service have now stood down.
