KEVIN GREENWOOD CHARGED OVER CAROL CONCERT AND FOOTBALL CLUB THEFTS

44-year-old Kevin Greenwood has been charged with offences related to the theft of a child’s bag from a church in Ryde, and the theft of personal possessions from Shanklin Football Club during a recent game. Greenwood, of West Street in Ryde, was arrested by Police yesterday morning (Tuesday) – as first reported by Island Echo – and has subsequently been charged with 2 fraud offences. It was on 23rd December that a male walked into All Saints Church in Ryde and stole a child’s rucksack just minutes into a Christmas carol concert. It’s alleged a stolen bank card was then used at the nearby Co-Op on West Street. After a month of investigation, Police have now charged Greenwood with fraud by false representation in relation to this incident.

The 44-year-old has also been charged with a further count of fraud by false representation relating to an alleged theft from Shanklin Football Club on 20th January. As first reported by Island Echo, various members of the Ventnor Reserves squad saw several personal items including their phones, wallets and watches stolen from inside a changing room during their Combination 1 fixture v Shanklin Reserves at County Ground. It’s claimed that stolen bank cards were used at Tesco Express in Lake. 43-year-old Gavin Buggs, of Barton Road in Newport, has also been charged with fraud by false representation relating to the use of a stolen bank card allegedly taken from Shanklin Football Club. He has also been charged with theft from a shop and using threatening/abusive words or behaviour on 11th December at Co-op on Sandown High Street, during which it’s alleged that £18.65 worth of food was stolen. Both men have been remanded in custody to appear at Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court this morning (Wednesday). Police say that none of the stolen items, some of which hold sentimental value to the owner, have been recovered.
