Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Team, Coastguard Rescue 175 helicopter, Bembridge RNLI Lifeboat and Police have all been involved in a rescue operation off Ventnor Esplanade this afternoon (Monday).
Solent Coastguard were alerted to a kayaker in difficulty off Ventnor at around 14:45, prompting an immediate multi-agency response to be launched.
According to witnesses situated on the Esplanade, the kayaker appeared to capsize around 150m or so off the shore and was screaming for help before a second kayaker then paddled out to assist.
Thankfully, both kayakers have now managed to safely return to shore in 1 kayak and therefore the assistance of Bembridge RNLI lifeboat and the Coastguard Rescue helicopter has not been required – both assets have been stood down from the incident.
Officers from Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Team have spoken to those involved to ensure their safety. They have not required any medical attention.
