Two Island lifeboats came to the aid of a broken down RIB taking part in a charity fundraising event this afternoon (Sunday).
Sandown & Shanklin Independent Lifeboat was tasked by Solent Coastguard shortly before 14:00 to assist a 7m RIB with two persons on board that was suffering from engine failure some 1.5 miles off Shanklin.
The lifeboat and her volunteer crew were soon alongside the casualty craft, which was taking part in a round the island event raising funds for the Macmillan Cancer Trust alongside 150 other vessels.
The lifeboat established a tow and processed towards Portsmouth.
At just before 14:30 Bembridge RNLI were tasked to launch to take over the tow. In doing so successfully the All Weather Lifeboat of Bembridge took the RIB to just outside of Chichester Harbour, where the tow was passed on again to Hayling Island Inshore Lifeboat.
No one was injured and both lifeboats have since rehoused.
