Festive cheer is once again being brought to the Isle of Wight this December as Light up the Wight returns!
The official Christmas lights map and competition, brought to you by Island Echo and sponsored by Southern Vectis, is back for the 7th year running.
Hundreds of families are expected to jump in their cars – or on the Southern Vectis tour bus – and follow the numbers to explore the wide variety of Christmas lights displays across the Isle of Wight, before voting for their favourite online.
22 amazing displays are included on this year’s map, which Islanders are invited to download from today at www.islandecho.co.uk/xmas.
Southern Vectis has once again teamed up with Island Echo to sponsor the festive competition with a new top prize of £400 for the Island’s best display, £200 for 2nd place and £100 for 3rd place, ensuring the lights are there for all to enjoy in the years to come. The bus operator’s popular Xmas Bus Tour has already proven so popular that all dates have sold out!
Unfortunately, the energy crisis is having an effect with a number of households deciding not to light up in 2022, so you will note there are a few addresses missing this year such as Green Lane in Shanklin and Worsley Road in Gurnard. Furthermore, some displays are reducing the number of hours lit up to save on electricity costs.
Due to how the weekends fall, some displays may not be lit up until Monday 5th December.
To download the map and vote for your favourite display head over to www.islandecho.co.uk/xmas.
Voting closes on 31st December 2021 and the winners will be announced in early January.
