ISLE OF WIGHT’S NICK MATTHEWS NAMED U16 GOLF PLAYER OF THE YEAR

The Isle of Wight’s Nick Matthews has been named U16 Player of the Year at Hampshire Junior Golf’s annual awards held at Alresford Golf Club.

Nick, who has played at both U16 and U18 level, was the only player to play in every match throughout the season and returned the highest number of points.

At U16, Nick was unbeaten in the South East Group League matches – he played 6, won 4 and drew 2. Nick also captained the U16 in the South East Group U16 finals, with the team crowed South East U16 Champions.

In U18 matches he was unbeaten – played 6, won 6.

This week Nick, who receives support from Wightlink via the Isle of Wight Council’s Talented Athlete Scheme, is training with the England Golf U18 South Regional Squad.
