Members of the Isle of Wight Federation of Women’s Institutes gathered at Newport Minster on Wednesday (4th June) to take part in the National Federation of Women’s Institutes Annual Meeting – a day of nationwide connection, decision-making and celebration.
With over 5,500 Women’s Institutes across the UK, each belonging to one of 69 Federations, the Isle of Wight’s 29 local WIs were well represented at the event.
For the first time, the national meeting was live-streamed via Zoom, allowing local members to watch proceedings as they happened.
The day began with the formal business of the organisation, including constitutional updates and the acceptance of the 2025 Resolution. Once complete, the mood turned celebratory and inspiring as guest speakers took to the virtual stage.
Emma Bridgewater, renowned for her colourful ceramics, spoke to members about her work and her recent collaboration to design a limited edition WI mug.
Later in the day, Angel Strawbridge – known for her role in Escape to the Chateau – shared stories of her journey from vintage enthusiast to successful entrepreneur. Speaking live from her home in France, she was joined by her husband Dick for a special appearance.
Members described the event as a great success and said the elegant setting of Newport Minster added to the sense of occasion for what is an important annual fixture in the WI calendar.
