2 Isle of Wight 16-year-olds – Lewis Johnstone and Ryan Cates – have battled their way through to the national table tennis finals in Derbyshire in June.
The pair were among 9 budding table tennis stars from the Island to compete in the tournament, held at Smallbrook near Ryde.
The Isle of Wight also beat a strong table tennis team from Plymouth to reach the final of the English Leagues Junior table tennis championships.
Islanders will remember some great previous young Island players who reached national finals in past years, including Lucy Pointer, Carl Prean, Lorna Dutch, Alex Rorke and Danny and Greg Burns.
Isle of Wight Table Tennis secretary, Peter Clarke has said:
“The IoW Table Tennis Association is delighted with this achievement by the boys, especially in our centenary year. Our coaches, led by Glenn Morley, have worked really hard, and the boys have responded and attained a high standard.
“They have great potential. We hope that they will maintain their interest in the sport and make even greater progress.”
