The Isle of Wight NHS Trust has scooped one of this year’s prestigious Nursing Times Awards after being shortlisted in 2 categories, including ‘Care of Older People’ and ‘Nurse Leader of the Year’.
The Island’s Community Rapid Response Team won the ‘Care of Older People’ category at an awards ceremony held in London last Wednesday (27th October). The team was recognised for their compassionate approach and rapid response to meet the needs of older patients in crisis during the pandemic.
Lesley Stevens, Director of Community, Mental Health and Learning Disabilities said:
“I am extremely proud of our Community Rapid Response team and it is a real pleasure to be able to congratulate them on this well-deserved win. This award is an endorsement of their commitment to providing ongoing high-quality crisis care for our older patients during a very challenging period for everyone.
“The team worked closely with community partners to make system wide changes, including using technology and improved coordination of care to treat more people at home. Their innovative and flexible approach helped to provide patients with more choice and an alternative to hospital admission. I am delighted to see them honoured and recognised in this way.”
Nicola Longson, Director of Operations for Community said:
“I am absolutely thrilled to see our Community Rapid Response Team receive this national accolade. The team went above and beyond during a very challenging period to ensure that older people who were most impacted by the pandemic, could receive safe and compassionate care in their own homes.
“It is a real honour to be recognised in this way, with the greatest reward being the way we care for our patients and their families, and to work with amazing partners and colleagues.”
The awards bring together the nursing community to shine a light on the brightest talent in the profession and to recognise those who are pioneering best practice in nursing to make a difference to people’s lives every day.
The Nursing Times Awards recognise those making nursing an innovative, patient-focused and inclusive profession. The 31st Nursing Times Awards ceremony was held at the Grosvenor House Hotel on Park Lane in London on Wednesday 27th October.
