In the only Isle of Wight hockey match to survive Storm Eunice, the Isle of Wight men’s 1st XI knocked 7 past Southampton University.
Within minutes of the start of the game, the Island’s Tom Turner scored with a powerful shot from the top of the circle (1-0).
Henry Edwards and Aaron Hoare commanded the centre of the pitch, which allowed Stephen Woodford and Samuel Challis to exploit down the wings. Henry Edwards added to the Island’s tally, dispatching a reverse stick hit from the edge of the D into the goal (2-0).
Aaron Hoare (3-0) and Will Mew (4-0) then capitalised on a chance each to add 2 more goals to the score sheet.

The second half started well, with Carl Joyce, Patrick Butt and Lewis Heaven-Gandy absorbing Southampton attacks to keep the momentum with the home team. Stephen Woodford then scored a tap in at the far post (5-0).
Turner got his second from the top of the circle to give the Island side a comfortable lead (6-0). Tomas Turjanica then sealed an emphatic win for the Islanders (7-0).
