ISLE OF WIGHT LADIES TOO STRONG FOR GUERNSEY

A combined Isle of Wight ladies golf team of 10 players welcomed Guernsey to the Island last weekend for 2 days of scratch competition.

After a week of stormy wet weather preceding the competition, the ladies were fortunate to have sunny, dry weather for both days.

The first day was held at Shanklin and Sandown Golf Club, the format being singles scratch match play. The IOW team made a great start and headed into Day 2 with a 6.5 : 3.5 lead.

The second day of competition was held at Freshwater Bay Golf Club, with a early start in fresh, breezy conditions. The format for the second day was fourball better ball. Once again the IOW proved too strong for the visitors, winning the fourballs 4:1. This is the first time the Isle of Wight have put together a ladies team (outside of the Island Games) to host a visiting side and came away with an impressive 10.5 to 4.5 win. We look forward to more matches in the future.

IOW team: Sophie Beardsall, Sammi Keen, Dawn Hodge, Lucy Burke, Debbie Skoludek, Bev Whorwood, Catherine Bachelor, Maggie Ankers, Gillian Fahy, Rose Green, Sue Keen.
