Pauline Proud, Gay Allen and Anne Bernard travelled to Palmerston Indoor Bowls Club at the tail end of 2018 to take on T Farrington, M Browne and R Benyon in the area quarter final of the Ladies National Indoor Triples. 

The game was close throughout but with only 3 ends left to play the home trio led by 3 shots. On the following end Bernard faced a deficit of 3 shots but played a firing shot to take the jack to her team’s back woods to score a vital 4 shots to give them a 1 shot lead.

2 shots on the next end gave them a 3 shot advantage going in to the final end and by dropping only a single they won the tie by 23 shots to 21 to reach the area semi final.

In the Ladies National Fours, Anne Bernard’s trio were joined by Stef Ball in their match at the Victory Indoor Bowls Club in Portsmouth. Their opponents were J Watts, J Greenwood, M Moffat and K Patrick. After a third of the game the Islanders had asserted a 13 shots to 4 lead. The home team came back strongly to level the scores after 15 ends had been played. However, the Island quartet were not be thwarted and their determination saw them score 10 shots over the following 4 ends to bring about a deserved 24 shots to 14 success.

On Saturday (5th January) at 12 noon, the Ladies take on Horsham Indoor Ladies Club at home in the last 16 of the Ladies National Yetton Plate. The team selected is HOME Phyl Fredericks, Sandra Adkins, Ann Hoath, Sue Green, Ronnie Berry, Auriol Ash, Peggy Evans and Pauline Proud. AWAY will be Annie Morris, Steff Ball, Shirley Stubbs, Gay Allen, Margaret Carrett, Jane Kilby, Barbara Sleep and Anne Bernard.

On Tuesday 8th January at 13:00, the Men play Victory Indoor Bowls Club from Portsmouth at home in the 4th round (last 32) of the Over 60’s Mens National Double Rinks. The match is played on a 1 home rink and 1 away rink basis.
