The Island’s hockey sides enjoyed a busy weekend with double hat-tricks, big wins and spirited youth performances across the board.
The Ladies’ 1st XI produced a stunning display away at Trojans 3rd XI, running out 10–0 winners.
Saffron Hart grabbed a brace from short corners, Katy Ednay also netted twice, while both Evie Fairhurst and Lizzie Dodds fired hat-tricks – with Dodds’ treble coming inside just 6 minutes.

At Smallbrook, the Ladies’ 2nd XI were equally impressive as they overcame Basingstoke 6XI with a strong 3–0 home victory.
Annabelle broke the deadlock just before half-time with a fine angled finish, before Siena converted from Emily’s strike after the restart. Annabelle sealed the points with her second of the afternoon, reacting quickly to her own short corner.

The Men’s 1st XI welcomed Andover to the Island and, despite falling behind to an early breakaway, stormed to a 7–2 success.
Kit McChesney levelled after racing onto a long ball, before Adam Payne scored from a short corner. Antonio Ferreira then hammered home from the right, and Payne struck again before half-time to give the Island a 4–1 lead.
Ferreira added his second after the break, with Finn Woodford deflecting in another effort. Samuel Challis calmly dispatched a penalty stroke, and Ethan Edmunds-Lamb scored with a poorly controlled pass that rolled into the net. A late lapse allowed Andover a consolation goal.

The Men’s 2XI had their first outing of the season away to Salisbury 5th XI (Sliders) but struggled in the opening period, trailing 4–0 at half-time.
A much-improved second-half showing included a strike from Carl Joyce, but the home side ran out 7–1 winners.

On Sunday, the Isle of Wight U14 Girls made their season debut away at HMS Temeraire against Havant.
Despite conceding early, the young Islanders battled hard, defending multiple short corners and creating chances. Havant’s experience showed in the second half as they added 2 more to claim a 3–0 win, but there were plenty of positives for the side, with several players making the step up to full-pitch hockey for the first time.
