Isle of Wight hockey teams enjoyed a busy weekend, recording wins for the Ladies, Men’s 1XI and Men’s 2XI, alongside battling performances elsewhere.
Ladies 1XI fight back to beat Southampton
The Isle of Wight Ladies 1XI showed resilience and composure to claim a 2–1 away win at Southampton after falling behind early.
A nervy start saw the hosts take the lead, but a crucial goal-line clearance from Claire Caddick proved pivotal as the Islanders regrouped and tightened up defensively. The equaliser came through Evie Fairhurst, who weaved through the Southampton defence before slotting home.
Sustained pressure followed, with shots from Saffron Hart twice striking the post after deflections from Emily Lord. Sophie Parkhouse reacted quickest to convert the rebound and put the Island ahead.
Despite a missed penalty and a late green card, the Islanders stood firm, with Wightlink Player of the Match Elsie Jenkinson producing a series of vital saves.
