A group of Isle of Wight Greenpeace members, supported by Surfers Against Sewage and Plastic Free Bembridge, travelled to Westminster earlier this week (Wednesday) to take part in the Climate Coalition’s Mass Lobby.
The lobby was to urge MPs to take stronger action on Climate Change and the protection of the natural world.
The event is part of the Act Now, Change Forever Campaign organised by the Climate Coalition. Around 5000 people from across the UK came to Parliament to meet directly with their MPs to share stories, highlight local impacts and demand real leadership regarding the crisis.
Isle of Wight East MP Joe Robertson met with the group in Westminster Hall. They raised the threats to nature from the proposed Planning and Infrastructure Bill; the need for a strong Global Plastics Treaty and the need for ratification of the Global Oceans Treaty.
Members of the group said that they found the meeting productive and positive and look forward to MP Robertson’s response and to working more closely with him on bringing about solutions to the climate and nature crisis.
The Mass Lobby is part of a wider movement calling for fair and ambitious solutions to the climate and nature crisis. Volunteers hope their MP will take the message back to Parliament and help drive forward urgent policies that protect people and nature alike.
Even more important than climate: how much longer is the world going to sit on its hands and ignore the daily atrocities being committed in Gaza? The IDF now openly admit to making mistakes and “technical errors” which result in the deaths and maimings of hundreds of innocent people, all at the behest of a power-crazed psycopath and his political co-criminals.
Every day when we do nothing damns each one of us; we expect leadership and action from our elected politicians and we get … nothing. Shame on them and on us!

If the island is concerned about the climate
why do they allow dirty diesel and petrol vehicles
to pollute the beautiful island.
Many days I drive behind vehicles blowing out a
load of sh*t.
The island needs to do more to keep our air clean.
On the mainland many councils charge diesels
double parking charges or std charge plus 50%
they are doing their bit, the island isn’t.
EV’s are much cheaper thesedays so there are no
excuses to pollute.
The island need to encourage more motorists to
switch to cleaner vehicles by offering incentives,
Free parking for EVs would be a nice gesture and
cheaper ferry fares for EVs
this would encourage more motorists to switch.
Or get the developing world to reduce their CO 2? Sadly on climate nothing moves the dail without their reductions….. China is producing 14 times more CO2 than the British Empire did at the height of its Industrial Revolution, around 1910 I believe…
