The Isle of Wight Cricket Board disability team have opened their season with victory against Dorset at Northwood Cricket Club. After losing the toss, the Isle of Wight started their new competition with the bat. In an innings that was interrupted and eventually closed early by rain, the Island posted 108-3 from 25 overs. Ali Cotton top-scored for the home side with an unbeaten 44 from 54 deliveries, including 5 fours and a six, with useful contributions coming from Chris Hebberd (17) and Pete Brown (16). After the rain forced an early tea, Hampshire/Dorset began their innings requiring 109 from 25 overs. However, the Isle of Wight Cricket Board side took regular wickets to keep the run rate in check. Kayton Evans (2-11) and Matt Rice (2-14) took 2 wickets each, with dismissals also for Brown (1-11), Hebberd (1-12) and Cotton (1-18), including a stunning catch by Declan Whittington, as Hampshire/Dorset’s chase ended thirteen runs short on 95-7.
