Former Ventnor Cricketers Danny Briggs and Adam Hose have continued to put in impressive performances for their respective teams in the T20 Blast: Birmingham Bears and Worcestershire Rapids.
On Tuesday (20th June), Briggs took 2 wickets in 2 balls for the 2nd time this season, but was unable to claim a hat-trick. However, he ended up with impressive figures of 2 for 26 off his 4 overs.
He then helped his team get over the line with the bat against Durham Jets after they collapsed from 125 for 4 to 133 for 8. They twice lost 2 wickets in 2 balls themselves with Briggs coming in to face the 2nd hat-trick ball.
He successfully negotiated the hat-trick ball before hitting his 2nd ball for 6 off the last ball of the penultimate over to keep his team in the game. He then watched from the other end as team-mate Jacob Bethell knocked off the remaining runs with just 3 balls to spare.
Also on Tuesday, Adam Hose helped the Worcestershire Rapids overcome a strong Lancashire Lightning team who posted 164 for 8 including a 54-ball 74 from England white-ball Captain Jos Buttler. Hose was there at the end of the chase to secure the winning runs (off a leg-bye) as he scored 27 not out to see his team to victory with more than 2 overs to spare.
After 10 games each in the T20 Blast, Danny Briggs has now taken the most wickets for Birmingham Bears (12) and Adam Hose has scored the most runs for Worcestershire Rapids (293) as both Islanders have become key players for their respective sides.
Another former Ventnor star – Travis Head – was also in action over the past week, playing for Australia against England in the Ashes. He contributed 66 runs over his 2 innings including 50 in the 1st innings as Australia narrowly beat England by 2 wickets on Tuesday evening.
