The indoor bowlers of the Isle of Wight Community Club in Cowes completed the season with 3 days of exciting club competition finals over the weekend of 17th-19th March.
On Friday Evening the Open Pairs Final saw Steve Lewis and Ray Byham overcoming Keith Beckett and Bill Pike 25-7.
On Saturday morning Steve Lewis proved victorious 21-11 in the 2-wood singles over Martin Butchers. John Crews started his strong performance throughout the weekend by beating Bill Pike 21-10 in the 4-wood singles.
The afternoon concluded with the triples final recording a win for Myles Farrington, John Crews and Martin Butchers 19-10 over Mike Cox, Ray Blanchard and Barry Bridgeman.
In the Ladies singles Debbie Crews proved too strong for Cat Mason playing magnificently to win 21-2.
On Sunday morning Steve Lewis overcame Dave Gustar 21-11 in the four wood singles Plate Competition. At the same time John and Debbie Crews eventually won the mixed pairs 22-17 in a closely fought game against Martin and Denise Butchers. The afternoon continued with an exciting Australian Pairs Final with Martin Butchers and John Crews having to play at their best to beat Steve Morris and Mark Baker 20-11.
The 4s was a game of 2 halves with Mick Lloyd, Keith Beckett, Tony Lloyd and Bill Pike edging out Steve Lewis, Brian Knowles, Dave Gustar and Ray Byham by 2 shots, 21-19!
Special achievements for the weekend must go to John Crews who won the 4 finals he contested and Steve Lewis who missed out on the 4s to win 3 of the 4 finals he contested.
Many thanks to John and Debs Crews for organising the competitions and to the officials who played their part. Myles Farrington and Alan Timbrell were umpires over the weekend with Brian Knowles and Denise Butchers marking the singles competitions. The good turnout of spectators was much appreciated by the players. A presentation evening will be held at the IOWCC on Saturday April 22nd.
