Isle of Wight Arts Society members gathered recently for a special 40th Anniversary Lunch at the Lakeside Hotel & Spa.
Members enjoyed a 2-course meal, followed by coffee and the cutting and sharing of a specially commissioned, iced anniversary cake.
To follow, members were treated to a fascinating illustrated talk by Doctor Ruth Waller of the Past Wight Consultancy about Roman to Medieval food as enjoyed by the ruling classes, contrasted with what peasants would survive on.
A set of 4 commemorative bookmarks were produced, featuring the work of local artists Sally Pengelly, Steve Pragnell, Ian Wright, and Jill Roe, which were distributed to members.
The Isle of Wight Arts Society membership is now open for the next season which starts in September. Application forms are available from the website. www.theartssocietyisleofwight.org.uk.
Prospective new members who come to the June lecture on 7th June with a completed application form, downloaded from the website, will be able to enjoy the lecture for £5 instead of the usual £10
