In January a coach full of Islanders enjoyed a free trip to London care of the Island’s MP, Andrew Turner, working with Red Funnel Ferries and Southern Vectis. Mr Turner has now announced the details of the second such event which will take place on Monday 8th December.
The trip will include coach and ferry travel from the Island to London for 48 lucky Islanders. There will be time to take in the sights or do some pre-Christmas shopping, as well as the opportunity of a guided tour of the Houses of Parliament.
There will be a ballot for places on the coach and the lucky winners will be collected early on the morning of the 8th December from either Ryde or Newport and taken, in a comfortable Southern Vectis coach via Red Funnel ferry, to London. Once there, you will have the opportunity to either do your own thing all day or to take an organised tour of the Houses of Parliament (duration approximately 70 minutes) with free time until the coach departs for the Island at around 15:00. Full instructions will be sent to those successful in the ballot.
There will be no charge for the trip, but those on the coach will be invited to make a £10 donation to the new ‘Isle Drive Safe – Remember Evey’ Island road safety charity set up in memory of 10 year old Evey Staley, who died in a drink-drive road crash in 2012.
Matt Kitchin, General Manager of Southern Vectis, said:
“The last London trip was a great success and Southern Vectis are very pleased to be involved again this time in giving Island residents the opportunity to visit London and the Houses of Parliament”.
Jonathan Green, Marketing & Communications Director for Red Funnel said:
“Red Funnel is once again delighted to support the cost of a pre-Christmas visit to the capital for 48 lucky Island ballot winners”.
Mr Turner added :
“It was great to see so many Islanders in Westminster in January. We hope to make this an annual event, but thought we would move it to shortly before Christmas so that people have the chance to do some Christmas shopping as well as see the Palace of Westminster. I’m very grateful to Southern Vectis and Red Funnel for their support.”
Any Island resident can apply for either one or two places by emailing names, address, email address and telephone number to [email protected] or by posting these details to Mr Turner at the Riverside Centre, The Quay, Newport, PO30 2QR.
The ballot will close at 17:00 on Friday 21st November and successful applicants will be advised by Tuesday 25th November. Anybody who was unsuccessful last year who applies again this year will have their name entered into the ballot twice to give them a better chance of winning.
