Islanders are throwing their support behind the NHS COVID-19 contact tracing app with over 40,000 downloads already registered.
According to the Isle of Wight’s MP, Bob Seely, by yesterday dinnertime (Thursday) there had been over 40,000 downloads of the brand new application – a number likely to be nearer 50,000 now.
A promotional campaign went live across the Isle of Wight yesterday – including here on Island Echo – which is being credited for a big increase in the number of downloads. Letters also started to land on doorsteps of every local household. Islanders will continue to see promotional messages over the next week.
As previously reported by Island Echo, Island residents are being encouraged to support the nation by being part of the next phase of the Government’s Test & Trace Programme. The app is currently only available on the Isle of Wight, but will be rolled out nationwide in the next 2-3 weeks.
To download the app, simply visit >> covid19.nhs.uk << on your mobile browser.

Just read elsewhere that the government’s joint committee on Human rights has serious concerns about data privacy and legality for the data the app collects and has made a number of urgent recommendations. There was also a similar request in a joint letter from over 170 security experts.
Don’t worry though because Bob Sealy says there are no issues and he’s bound to know far more about security than either the committee or people who’ve dedicated their careers to the subject.
This app can save lives so please download it, but also put pressure on the government to back it up with proper legal protections and independent oversight.
40,000 out of a population of 141,000 that’s only 28% of the population a long way off the 60% they were hoping for too many security issues with it at the moment I fear till they are sorted & its proven to be be at least 90% secure people wont trust it plus there seems to be a lot of phones that cant use the app. as for Bob Sealy well I would trust him as far as I could throw him Trust has to be earnt not just given
the app can be downloaded by those not on the island also- the number includes non island residents. The NHS just ask if you are not on the island to not upload data.
Anyone having the same problems as us? When Bluetooth is on it knocks out the WiFi and nothing will load.
May be best to wait. An article on Yahoo this morning shows that the UK may scrap the APP we have been given due to security issues.
I did post the link, but it has been removed for some reason???
Why Admin???
in todays financial times – they have stated that the government is beginning the build of a second app, based on google and apples decentralised model
Tried & wanted to install app.
Won’t work on my Sony phone.
Anyone else having problems.
Emailed our MP BS asking if the government would give me a mobile to use.
Guess what no answer so sorry folks can’t join this test!
I tried to download this app but my Samsung J6 but it just says ‘no device recognised’. I have downloaded other apps in the past and Bluetooth is on. I don’t understand what the problem is so I’ll have to give it a miss.
subby – crap – stop smokin that weed.
one of the grievous effects is that you can not discern the truth as meat fogs your brain so you see anyone speaking clearly as talking fog…
subby – crap – stop smokin that weed.
you are more likely to be smoking weed than me..
More like talking bollox.
meat also blocks ones tubes and those who have had blocked tubes think it normal….I will not pursue conversing as you are probably all trying to screw the abyss…
See you kept back some LSD tabs from the 60’s for a special occasion, beam me up scotty.
you are all quick to slaughter someone for some reason…bolster each others ignorance..its like trying to give a pig dietary advice…
Think i fancy a nice juicy bloody steak for lunch… will chuck some meat on the bbq. Yum!
covid19 is just a symptom of a bigger disease..education obviously will not work so the powers that be will use war pestilence and disease, and when there is widespread starvation the ignorant will still look for something to slaughter….
yep – I am having chilli beef this evening – delish!!
So who’s going to save us, your God?
A character wrote about in some book years ago.
He will save all of those who follow, no need for them to be vaccinated then.
My family have spoken to several people and we have become very worried that, through lack of information, there are quite a lot of islanders who seem to think that by having the app means that they can go out and be safe! They think that the app will tell them who has got Covid 19 so they can avoid anyone who had symptoms. The letter from the NHS we have received really doesn’t answer anyone’s queries and only seems to be encouraging us to download the app and doesn’t really explain that it is just a trial to see if the app can work. I think it should have been made very clear that we are still in lockdown as people obviously don’t understand and that might explain why there are so many people out and about today! Let’s hope our infection rate doesn’t rocket now!
Good analogies but waste of time on here as only interested in drugs drink and barbecues
More bullocks!
