Face coverings are to become compulsory on ALL public transport later this month, the Government has announced this evening (Thursday).
The transport minister Grant Shapps made the announcement during today’s coronavirus daily press briefing from Downing Street.
From 15th June, England residents travelling on public transport – which includes cross-Solent ferries, Island Line trains and Southern Vectis buses – will by law have to wear a face covering.
Islanders who fail to comply with the law will be refused travel or fined by the Police.
Young children under the age of 3 will be exempt from the rule, as will anyone who may find it difficult to manage coverings safely including primary school aged children and those with respiratory conditions.
The soon-to-be-introduced restriction only applies to public transport – it does not include other locations such as outside spaces, shops and schools.

watch as the controlling starts!
See how the sheep will do as they are told, even when there’s evidence to prove face covers are a hazard to you health. So dumb. I hate myself for this but the ,I told you so is going to feel so bloody good at the end of all this.lol. can’t wait.
@mr justice, nearly 400,000 people world wide have died and you want to have a laugh. Your need to check your thinking, that is sick on every level.
No I’m no laughing at people dying! oh and that was the fig your liars ( government) told you would have in the U.K. alone! So that don’t make sense does it? Anyway ,I’m laughing at fools like you, that can’t see the end of your nose, let alone See what’s really happening, so back to sleep sheep.
How do you know that many people died, you get told this figure from the main steam media. They have been putting COVID19 on death certificates when they didn’t even die of it. My partner works in a care home and I know they have been labeling residents with it. I also know of hospital workers who say its not bad at all in St Mary’s, they have never been so relaxed with lack of work. So they wasted money on these COVID19 hospitals, bringing the army over for nothing. There is footage showing hospitals empty, their is proof Channel 4 news faked footage from a hospital and used mannequins. The media and the government are lying to us. It’s communism they are trying to introduce, it’s control. Do you want your freedom taken away? Well get used to it. Look at all the suisides recently, the lack of cancer patients getting treatment and dying. Hardly saving lives. The trouble is with people is that they take the main stream media has 100% fact without question.
Says who exactly…perhaps you should check your facts…plenty of professionals calling this out for what it is.
Don’t bother replying echo censored it now opinion matters ha
Yeah, totally.
There is NO independent news media now.
‘Free Press’ but not free public opinions.
You really think it’s only just started?
That’s funny
No Ed, it started way before this! I was just saying now watch the liars on how they are going to fool most people with new regulations etc…! They have fooled most already with this b.s
D
Why do we have to wait until 15th ? I just don’t understand why it should not be compulsory now!
No mention of taxi travel, I guess taxis comes under public transport.
Yes and at there prices they should supply them as well. Clare pearie x
Taxi fares are set by the council , so no need to make stupid comments regarding them supplying facemasks.
Why didn’t they insist on it 2 months ago, latex gloves too
Do you not understand how carbon dioxide attacks the bodies immune system. Educate yourself man!
Absolutely! As long as you aren’t close up there is no reason to wear the mask! Makes my blood boil. I work in a nursing home and masks are work when giving care etc… they are not needed when outside when socially distanced. Like over wearing gloves! People should educate themselves properly. My friend had a massive asthma attack due to having wearing her mask for work – a seven hour shift! There have been soo many cases of Pleurisy too!
You must know the risk is increased considerably when in confined spaces EG cars, trains, buses etc etc. Good job your doing Jackie in your care work, you and many others like you. I am a key worker and have worked throughout the year. I think face masks are a good idea, though 4 months too late being made compulsory! No, they are not pleasant too wear admittedly.
So from the 15th then when traveling we will all start suffering with Carbon dioxide poisoning? So it doesn’t matter if we start now then if the effect is going to be the same? And yes I am educated Mr Justice!
I suspect it is timed to coincide with the increased relaxation of the lockdown measures with more people travelling because more businesses and shops will be open.
Plus, people need time to get/make masks.
Not sure if it would work on a train long journey though – after an hour or so the mask would be far too wet to be effective.
baaaaaaa
Exactly! I’ve been a bit fed up for weeks now, being the only person to be wearing a mask on the bus, when I *have* to use a bus for essential shopping once a week. And why not for young kids? Aren’t they the ones who are more likely to spread it around with all the open mouthed coughing and sneezing they do whenever one of them with a cold or sniffle is taken onto a bus? Never seem to have parents who tell them they should cover their mouth with a hankie when they cough or sneeze.
It should also protect people from the never ending round of colds, flu and bronchial complaints every winter, caused in a large part from having to travel on the bus. Should help to keep the poor drivers safe too.
HOW WILL YOU KNOW WHO THE BADDIES ARE ON THE TRAINS ARE, THE PASSENGERS OR THE STAFF,
For the educated, I would guess the uniform would be a huge giveaway.
Well sometimes uniforms are hard to see under long coats, scarfs, hats dct
Who’s wearing long coats, scarfs and hats in this heat?
Most of the staff when standing around outside stations smoking, mabe don’t want to be recognised.
Flashers
This only applies to individuals or small families doesn’t it?
If you want to go via bus/train to a protest then no laws apply and so long as you have a hand across the chest and the plea of the righteous, maybe a crocodile tear or two, then you will be fine to do what you want – no enforcement whatsoever.
that’s ok I don’t use public transport
What about in a bit you will have to wear them when you go outside? You sheep are unbelievable.
Do you not ever leave the island as this also includes ferries if you are not aware.
I’ve been waiting for the government to do a cover up and here it is.
Not funny i know … but yet again, its too little and several months too late.
Yes very true
Does it apply on stay in cars ferries
What an absolute joke !!
This won’t achieve nothing, just like the rest of the crap we all get fed by this controlling government!!!!!!
Don’t kid yourself things would have been much different with another government…all as bad as each other
Ha ha ha lol see mrs brown they won’t listen, this is just the start like we have been saying for weeks and weeks.
You must obey do as your told. as if every one should stop using public transport between the ferries and bus companys there the biggest rip off companys the island has ever seen
I have just discovered that a pair of clean underpants actually works quite well as a face covering. I just pulled some of my ‘trunk’ style ones over my head and they are a surprisingly good and comfortable fit. You put the waist end bit on first and then choose one of the two leg holes to pop your head through – they stay up above the nose and mouth with no need for extra support remaining loose and flappy around the neck yet enough material to cover the neck. I was quite surprised. And because there are two leg holes through which to poke your head, if one gets a bit soiled after a few sneezes you can use the other one until you get a chance to wash it.
perfect solution for the sheep !!!!!!
This is so social distancing on public transport can be removed sooner – all public transport is on lifeline support and will collapse without customers and revenue.
If I was lucky enough to find the floatie working, I suppose I would need one on there
As most of the seats are ‘not in use’, and Southern Vectis are not exactly the most reliable service, some buses every hour. What are people supposed to do then when it’s busy, and the kids go back to school as they use the buses too.
you will be doing what the ferry users are already doing – standing there, annoyed, waiting for a service with space.
As much as I dont believe this has any benefits on mine or anybody else’s health if I get to walk around looking like a ninja I’m up for it.
when those making the “laws” are stepping on our god given sacred rights (to breathe) its about time to get rid of those making the “laws” for failing in their duties.
Welcome to tyranny …obey consume… the new normal
I will be wearing a guy fawkes mask or a gimp mask,i will not be fined
you know like dog owners smell a bit like their dog but they can not smell it themselves ?
well it’s the same with peoples breath, eating onions garlic and meat especially gives bad odour, the trouble being those who partake of such have a lessened sensitivity to the rancid smell, and you can smell someones rancid breath quite a few seats away on a bus because some of them can not seem to keep their tongue still for a moment. you have seen how far smoke goes when exexhaled well it is much the same when people are incessantly talking about rubbish, now a face mask may not be a fine filter but it will work as a course filter and stop some of the larger particles spraying everywhere from someones mouth when they are incessantly talking….there is one way to find out if you are a sheep , smell your breath, because the bad shepherds have got you all having bad breath….
Seems to of gone away on its own anyway, less restrictions now and no new cases for some time. How does that work?
Note to island echo, please add this information to your story. It is important for people to understand what is being asked for works.
To combat all the false information from people who ‘think’ they know. Here is a list of per-reviewed papers that show wearing a face mask DOES protect you. In short, wearing a mask brings your risk down from 17% to 3% when in close distance to an infected person. The infection rate reduces even more if an infected person has a mask on too.
Please, don’t take my word for it, read the FACTS!

I’m sold
Especially when you sneeze, it has been shown that tiny droplets can travel 7 – 8 metres, and as most public transport and many small shops are a confined area, I ask myself: why not face masks in shops as well!
If i take my dog on the bus does she need a mask? Also is it worth old people wearing a mask
as they all have them below their nose.
All gimmicks to pretend that the Gov is trying to keep us all safe, when, in reality, they know most of us will fall victim to CV, LONG before a cure is found, if ever.
But as we have more beds, then we can die out of sight, out of mind, of the watching world.
Thus lessening the ‘damage’ to the Tory party as number soar as the meaningless measures of masks, distancing, etc are not carried out by all, THEN the Gov can ‘ blame us’ as many many more die, but who are then mere numbers on a growing daily tally, not names at addresses.
That is their ONLY plan, and only option.
I would like to mention also about the police and fire service on London Bridge clapping for the NHS not social distancing. Are they immune to the so called virus just because they wear the uniform? Also in supermarkets, at the doors and checkouts all got to keep your distance but in the aisles everyone including staff walking past each other close proximity. Surely also if there was a pandemic, the government telling us masks dont work and not to wear them, we would all have the virus, it would be too late to suddenly now tell us to wear them. It’s stupid. I know a woman who has terminal cancer, one lung who was said to have COVID19 and survived, how is that possible?. It’s all a load of rubbish, there is an agenda behind all this. Carry on clapping like seals while your freedoms get taken away. Look at China’s social credit score system, they have been testing it here. Wake up people.
Well said Dave b, but I’m afraid the sheep people are just to scared to see the truth. Since this lie started,I’ve tried to share what I have researched, given facts, websites to view, but no, the government wouldn’t lie to us ( weapons of mass destruction) and the bbc are our sources of truth. Yes it’s laughable if it wasn’t so serious. These fools will only realise what’s happened, when it’s to late. We will all suffer, when the social credit system and agenda 21, they won’t know where to run. To late.
You made some really good points in your other post, about the blm thing, and I replied, but I see your comment has been deleted, seems like there is fear of putting out any viewpoint that challenges what is happening in the world as regards this.
Now how about my neighbor’s, next door has their kids in the house that don’t live with them and across the road has had their kids and grandchildren in and out since lockdown started, both families clap the NHS on a Thursday, hypocrites?
