eastleigh10kRunners from a variety of different clubs made the trip to the 29th running of Eastleigh 10k on Sunday with many putting in great performances despite the cold conditions.

Geoff Watkins coached top Island junior runner Harrison Curling, running for his mainland club of Aldershot & Farnham,  to finish strongly at the front of a very competitive field, coming home in 14th  overall in a time of 32:36.

Island clubs were well represented across the 2600 strong field,; runners from Ryde Harriers, Wight Tri, I.W Road Runners & West Wight Road Runners all took part, Simon Randall running for I.W Road Runners lead the way in the senior men for the Island in a superb time of 35:44, closely followed by West Wight Road Runners Andrew McEwen in 37:37. Another Watkins coached athlete, Ryde Harrier’s Pete Young, took 1st in the 65+ category in a time of 39:02

Many islanders then followed, Dave Cass (IWRR) 39:38, Keith Morey (Wight Tri) 39:57, then came top Island female of the day Polly Segar (IWRR) in a very quick time of 40:37, followed by Geoff Watkin’s third coached athlete of the day, Wight Tris’ Rob Merrifield in 41:33.
