Island Roads is seeking people to join its highways maintenance teams as it gears up for another busy year improving and maintaining the Island’s road network.
The company, which employs around 200 Island people, is responsible for more than 500 miles of highway on the Island. As well as highway improvement work, the company’s other areas of responsibility include winter maintenance activities, street sweeping, amenity grass cutting, verge maintenance and gulley cleansing.
It is hoping to recruit people to work in its highways teams who will be involved in all aspects of highways maintenance, groundworks, resurfacing, drainage and kerbing.
Keith Gourlay, Island Roads construction manager, says:
“We are looking to fill a range of positions across our various maintenance teams as we embark on this year’s programme of scheduled maintenance work.
“This is a real opportunity for people to join us on what is a large and multi-faceted operation that is making a real difference to the Island’s transport infrastructure and street scene.”
The company is contracted to maintain the Isle of Wight’s road network for the next 15 years, providing employees with long-term job security and good prospects for career advancement in the future.

As the district stewards driving around in there new vans don’t notice the holes and bumps in the road I would suggest they are made to ride bikes or motorbikes. They will either then notice them or come off their bike.Then perhaps St John’s Road and Brook road , Shanklin will be sorted also Landguard Road next to the church, Sandown road by the garage and the list goes on..
