When 15 members of Vectis 40 Vintage gathered at The Dairyman’s Daughter, Arreton for a pre-Christmas luncheon, cheque presentations to 3 Island charities were on the menu. Following a members’ vote, the proceeds of the group’s fundraising efforts were distributed to three Island-based charities. IW Defibrillators received £600 to purchase an external single-use defibrillator. Member Steve Read explained that it was the 102nd device since 2020 to be secured for use on the Island. It would be placed in an external cabinet and would be accessed by ringing 999 to learn the code required. I.W. Motor Neurone Association was awarded £500, to help in the fight against M.N.D. Linda Griffiths whose husband died from M.N.D. In 2006 was present with her daughter Alison, to receive the cheque. Linda said that her husband had been helped by the charity and before M.N.D. had overcome him, aged 57, he had undertaken long-distance walks to raise funds. Wildheart Animal Sanctuary benefited to the tune of £200, with their representative Christine Harty present to receive the donation. Christine said that the sanctuary housed a variety of species including four rescued Tigers-all female. 2 of these arrived in May this year and have now settled in well. There are now 102 rescued animals/birds in Sandown including four lions- 2 female & 2 male. All the charity representatives thanked Vectis 40 Vintage for the donations saying that monies raised would be used on the Island.
